FIRST WEEKS AS A TRAINEE WITH ANSWERS INVESTIGATION |
|
Where do I start? After a short career in recruitment I joined Answers with what I thought was a basic understanding of what would be involved in being a Junior Investigator. I wasn't even close. I didn’t know it at the time that the role would not only become a career but a massive part of my life. I have caught the bug that so many people have told me about. Initially I came across an ad in the paper for a junior Private Investigator. I applied and within days I was asked to come into the head office for a coffee and to find out a little more about what I might be getting myself into. The first thing that hit me was the incredibly warm yet professional atmosphere in the office |

A few hours later on the Wednesday evening I received a call with the daunting question, ‘What are you up to tomorrow’. I answered ‘I’m free’ and before I knew it I was in London with five other people on a surveillance assignment. The hours were long and it was freezing but when I finally got home I wanted to turn around and go straight back and start all over again. I was lucky enough to have joined in the middle of a big case that captured not only my mind but my heart! It was like being in a Channel 4 thriller (just without the guns and killing). One of my parts in the case was to report on hundreds of (legally) monitored emails. I felt a little guilty reading them but when evidence came up, that benefited our client, I was over the moon and truly addicted.
A more recent adventure, to serve some legal documents, involved a ridiculous number of tube and train journeys followed by a hunt for a (it seemed at one point) non-existent address. After hours of walking up and down the same road and asking lots of direction we finally found it - only to discover the person we were hunting shooting off - requiring jumping into a cab with the sentence ‘follow that car’. All in all a great start to my career as a P.I
Being 21 and looking 14 pays off sometimes - I get involved in lots of other assignment and projects such as Challenge 21, Think 21 and a host of other adventures and dealing with my own clients (I cant wait, I thought Christmas was exciting). I think one of the most important things about working for Answers is that you can laugh at yourself as well as laughing with people around you and to be upfront and honest with everyone you come in contact with, clients and colleagues alike.
| Isla, one of our younger members, has been a great tutor and inspiration to me since I have started here. She is nothing like me, and has many strengths ; one of the things I have quickly learnt is that everyone has plus and minus skills, and it is as important to be aware of less developed aspects as it is to develop strengths - that way people don't get let down. I know will follow in her footsteps and become a great P.I. | |
| We are always happy to talk to business and social clubs about what we do - it is a lot of fun to see people's perceptions change, knowing that they are expecting some shady middle aged Marlowe figure in a trenchcoat and being somewhat surprised at the broad range of areas we become involved in. If you would like us to come and talk to your club, please call our main office on 01483 200999. |
