is it about spying on people that gets people going? "It's just the
buzz you get from the secrecy of it. It's why people love Bond films."
I have just begun working with a private investigation agency, Answers
Investigation, who have offices covering the whole area within the M25.

I
was between jobs towards the end of 2000 and wondering what to do next.
A flash of inspiration hit me one afternoon on a temp job where there
was no work for me to do. The idea of private investigation was so
compelling that I spent the whole afternoon finding out about it on the
internet. |

I just
knew it was right for me. There was no way I was going to sit working in
an office for the rest of my life and I wanted to do something exciting."
I immediately began a course in private investigation and got a sales
job to learn how to sell. I didn't believe in the product I was selling.
After a few months I knew I had to leave, but not before I had learned
what I started the job for. |

I feel
differently about speaking to people about what I do now. I have no
problems promoting private investigation services because I know we
deliver what we say we will. If I love what I'm doing, I'm not exactly
going to do a bad job for people am I? |

There
really was nothing that I really wanted to do. Psychology is interesting
but I knew from the start that I didn't want to be a psychologist. You
only live once, so why not do what really inspires you, even if it goes
against what people expect? |

After
finishing my course, it was a case of either starting up my own
detective agency or finding one to work for. I was very lucky. I sent an
email to a mailing list for UK private investigators offering to work
for them and got two replies. One was from Answers Investigation. After
a few more emails and telephone calls we arranged a meeting. |

I
remember my first surveillance assignment well. "It was a barman
stealing cash from the till behind the bar. The client knew who was
doing it - they just needed evidence. We got what we wanted." |

I feel as
enthusiastic as to begin with! I had been warned that it wasn't all
fireworks and adventure but that goes without saying. There's a lot more
to it than just surveillance. You are basically a hunter of information
and this can come in many forms. I am just as enthusiastic about it now
as I was when I first got the idea to do it. |

How do
I see my future? Hopefully we will keep on expanding. Not enough people
know about what private investigators can do for them. There is a lot
more we can do for people than just find out if their partners are
