Like many among us, I had always perceived the Private Investigation industry as a loose cannon in the investigative field. After closer inspection I could see that there were many legitimate companies out there and this prompted my application for a career with Answers. For me the attraction lies with the freedom I am given to use my brain and initiative while being allowed to develop my own ideas. That, and, of course, the exciting nature of the work that that this role involves. I am still, however, waiting to jump into a taxi and demand that they ‘follow that car!’

Having had very little idea of what to expect when I arrived I was pleasantly surprised that my new colleagues were in fact normal(ish), with a sense of humour and above all are just people who, like me, want to use their intellect to solve problems on behalf of others. I was gently introduced to the idea of working without a static plan, as scenarios that you find yourself involved in are constantly changing.

There are also the downsides to the job. Most notable are the occasional early morning starts. It is fair to say that I don’t get out of bed singing anyway but when it’s August and still dark you know something is not right. Fortunately if this happens you can be sure that the reasons for you being up earlier than the milkman will be worthwhile.

For some I suppose waiting around for hours at a time for a subject to appear (or not) could be quite monotonous but for others the fact that you often don’t know what they will do or where they will go injects much anticipation and excitement into a working day.
